April 1 - 5

We are looking for 43 2L pop bottles (empty and clean.) We want to make terrariums with the students to grow plants. If you can send these into us, we will be very grateful. Thank-you in advance.

April Calendar

Inspector Kesia came from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) as a volunteer with The Classroom Agriculture Program (CAP) to share with us more information about the importance of agriculture in their every day lives. Inspector Kesia taught us about the food they eat and where it comes from as well as opportunities in agriculture. Inspector Kesia also taught us about the economic and environmental impact of agriculture in Alberta.

Did you know a dairy cow drinks 80-160L of water each day in order to produce 27L of milk?

We learned about the different people involved in making sure our food is safe as it goes from the farm to our kitchen table. We even got to dress up as the different inspectors. Aren't they adorable?

Did you know that there are 5.5 million head of cattle in Alberta?

Science: Refraction Challenge
City of Ember

We were looking at whether a number was divisible by 3 today when doing our number talk. We were using division and skip counting to figure it out. Did you know there is a faster way? If we use the divisibility tests, we can do it without paper and pencil. The divisibility tests seem to work by magic; but there must be an explanation that shows why they aren't magic. They sure are helpful in increasing our automaticity and efficiency when estimating. Why do you think these divisibility tests work?

A note from BWS Parent Council/BWS Fundraising Society:

Hello Bridlewood Parents!

We would like to introduce a new project called, The Sunshine Fund. The Sunshine Fund is a way for all of us to come together and lend a helping hand to families in our community that could use a little extra assistance.

It is a donation box that is available for people who wish to help out by contributing gift cards for various items. These items will be collected and distributed as needed by staff and administration.
The box will be located in the front office and all donations will be anonymous.

Wish List:
Gas gift cards
Grocery gift cards
Clothing gift cards

Thank you in advance for your help with this new project. Together as a school and a community, we can help to spread a little sunshine and brighten someone’s day.

Sincerely,

BWS Parent Council

Reminder: Recycling, Compost, and Garbage

Do you remember where to put things? Should I reuse my plastic fork or recycle it immediately? Do you put your muffin wrappers in the garbage or the compost or recycling? Do you know where to look if you can't remember? Try the City of Calgary website:
What Goes Where?

What if the recycling is full? What should we do? Do we keep adding recycling or should we ask to go empty it?
