Bell Let's Talk
Here are a few resources you might find helpful:

Some key things to keep in mind:
  • Talk openly about mental health. Take the time to talk to family or friends about mental health.
  • Educate yourself and others. Ask to hear personal stories of mental illness. Ask questions to understand and learn more.
  • Be conscious of language. Don’t use hurtful or derogatory language.
  • Show compassion for people with mental illness. Compassion can be shown by saying a kind word or making eye contact with someone.
  • Speak out about stigma. If you hear stigmatizing language take a stand and provide feedback to others about this.

This is a great resource about using appropriate language. Words to "use instead of" list is great! Such a good reminder to be mindful at all times about what we say.

Bell will donate more towards mental health initiatives in Canada by contributing 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet, social media video view and use of our Facebook frame or Snapchat filter.  Spread the word to your friends and family all day long!

Introducing Barb...
We have been working on story telling and character development using Pixar in a Box.  Last week we created a class character.  We considered her internal, and external features as well as traits that motivate her.  We needed to think about her fears, and what she wants versus what she needs and how these things will help us create a story about Barb.

Today we met Barb and were challenged to make our own story plan about Barb knowing that she is 35 years old, scared of water, spiders and small spaces, is at University to become an engineer, is also a singer and is bullied because she is a puppet.

Here is Barb!

Felted Soap

Felted Soap continued

January 29, 2019- We did some hard and worthy work this morning.  Inspired by Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed we took on creating our own Extraordinary Deed- Felted Soap.  We wrapped our soap and then used bubble wrap to agitate and get the fibers of the wool to mesh together.  We had to agitate our soap for 15-20 minutes.  Our arms certainly got tired.

We talked about how to create a movement the way Mary did.  Do we donate our soap to a charity?  Do we gift it to a friend or family member?  How will they know to pay it forward or do something kind for another?  Do we write a note?

Hats on for Mental Health
Today is Hats on for Mental Health.  We encourage everyone today and everyday to take care of both their physical and mental wellbeing.  Today the focus was on our mental wellbeing and how to talk about our feelings and who to talk to...if we need to.  Hats on for Mental Health- take a little time for yourself today.
